This project was spearheaded by a small group of alumni from l’Association des anciens/anciennes de l’école secondaire catholique Thériault, in partnership with the City of Timmins, Timmins Porcupine Track and Field Club, Soccer North, and local soccer clubs and school boards. The complex includes a 400-metre IAAF-certified track and field facility, in addition to two natural turf soccer fields that comply with FIFA International standards.
An eight-metre heavy timber cantilevered roof shelters the press boxes and the central section of the 1,000-seat concrete bleachers. Located beneath the bleachers is a 500 m² (5,380 ft²) field house, which includes a canteen, change rooms, public washrooms, and special events room. To ensure the facility provides top performance conditions at all times, an automated irrigation system and network of sub-surface drains were included in the design.
Since its opening, the complex has garnered provincial-wide recognition as one of the best athletic facilities in Ontario, hosting such events as the Franco-Ontarien Summer Games and the Ontario Legion Provincial Championships for track and field. Located in the heart of the city and completed on schedule and within budget, this new complex continues to be a great source of pride for the community.
