The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is an approximately 500,000 sq.ft,. 3-storey general hospital. It is significantly larger than the old General Hospital it replaced, and is better equipped to provide more health care services to the residents of the North Bay Region. The NBRHC includes a larger emergency department than the previous hospital, consisting of 32 treatment beds, a consolidated ambulatory care centre, and 275 acute care beds
In addition to the main hospital building, the project also includes the development of the Northeast Mental Health Centre, which is housed in 250,000 sq.ft. building located on the site. The Centre is a 2- storey facility, and reflects a home-like village environment and includes 52 forensic psychiatry beds, 61 specialized mental health beds, a client services mall, a gymnasium, workshops, psychiatric offices and outpatient services.
J.L. Richards & Associates Limited, in association with the ZW Group, provided project management services for the project. Our involvement included:
- Full-time resident project manager
- Peer review for design documents
- Value engineering
- Project coordination
- Liaison and coordinating with the prime architectural firm and hospital staff
- Coordinating “mock-up” rooms and system testing
Construction was completed in January 2011. Since its opening, the Centre has significantly improved the quality of healthcare in north eastern Ontario, and continues to provide a variety of medical services to the region.
