Downtown Sudbury Streetscape Improvement Project
JLR prepared a guideline for future development and improvement of Downtown Sudbury. This process resulted in the creation of the Downtown Sudbury Streetscape Project, Phase II: Site Amenity Design Specifications and Costing.
Downtown Sudbury is a unique part of the city shared by all residents. It is a dynamic employment and shopping area that supports cafes, restaurants, and theatres. The character, walkability, activity, and culture of the downtown core are among the city’s many attractions. The overall vision of the Streetscape Project was to promote the growing vitality of the downtown core by enhancing its image, while continuing to attract investment and people.
The Streetscape Project, based on thorough research and public consultation, resulted in a tangible vision for the downtown core, illustrated through streetscape elements such as benches, sidewalks, plantings, street furnishings, lighting, signage, gateway enhancements, and façade elements. Recommendations for implementing the project’s vision, as well as potential costs, were included in the report that serves as a guide for both decision-makers and property owners.
The CGS and Downtown Sudbury BIA have implemented elements of the project over time, including the installation of bicycle racks, street signage, and street lighting.
