Kingston, ON — We’re proud to celebrate the achievement of Susan Jingmiao Shi, P.Eng., Associate and Senior Environmental Engineer. She has been named one of Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine’s Top 10 Under 40 for 2026, recognizing her technical excellence, innovation, leadership, and service to the consulting engineering profession.
Based in Kingston, Ontario, Susan has built a distinguished career in water and wastewater engineering over more than 15 years, helping municipalities across the province plan, assess, and deliver critical infrastructure. She is known for translating complex technical, financial, regulatory, and environmental challenges into practical, implementable solutions.
A recognized leader in climate-resilient infrastructure, Susan has championed the integration of climate considerations into municipal master plans, environmental assessments, and feasibility studies. She recently earned the Infrastructure Resilience Professional designation, underscoring her commitment to sustainable, forward-thinking engineering.
Beyond her technical contributions, Susan is a dedicated mentor to engineering students, Engineers-in-Training (EITs), and early-career professionals, both within JLR and across the broader profession. She chaired the Licensing Assistance Program for Professional Engineers Ontario’s Kingston Chapter, connecting experienced engineers with EITs pursuing licensure, and actively supports STEM outreach initiatives to inspire the next generation of engineering talent.
“Susan represents the very best of our profession,” said Saverio Parrotta, President and CEO of JLR. “Her technical leadership, commitment to resilient communities, and dedication to developing others have made a lasting impact. We’re proud to see her receive this national recognition.”
Since 2023, Susan has served as the inaugural co-chair of JLR’s Corporate Environmental Sustainability Committee, where she led the development of the firm’s greenhouse gas reporting framework and supported emissions-reduction targets. She also serves on the Council of Professional Engineers Ontario as Eastern Region Councillor and Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee, where she advocates for equity, inclusion, and the modernization of the profession.
