NORTH BAY – This year marks a major milestone for our North Bay office as we celebrate its 20th anniversary!
From our first location on Cassells Street to our new home in the historic Cochrane-Dunlop Building, the North Bay office has grown alongside the community.
What started with a small group of dedicated civil and structural engineers has expanded into a 14-person team offering architecture, planning, and full engineering services, all while collaborating closely with our other offices across Ontario.
Our journey began with landmark projects like the North Bay Regional Health Centre. This 500,000 sq.ft. facility includes over 400 beds and offers a wide range of services as it continues to improve healthcare across northeastern Ontario.
Today, the North Bay team is delivering full architectural and engineering services for the Community and Recreation Centre at the Steve Omischl Sports Field Complex. Scheduled for completion in August 2026, the facility will feature two NHL-sized ice pads, a walking track, community spaces, and barrier-free accessibility. We are also leading the sustainability strategy to meet the latest Canada Green Building Council’s Zero Carbon Building Design Standard, making it one of the first of its kind in Ontario. This significant project truly reflects the scale and impact of our work across the region.
JLR CEO Saverio Parrotta, COO Ryan Matthews, and Jane Wilson, Director of Municipal Infrastructure and Planning were on hand to mark this special occasion with heartfelt speeches and to recognize the incredible achievements of our North Bay team.
We were also honoured to be joined by regional leaders and industry partners, including Mayor Peter Chirico from the City of North Bay, Greg Kirton, Director of Community Services at Municipality of East Ferris, Kathleen Thorne Rochon, Mayor of West Nipissing, and Stu Campaigne, Constituency Manager for Nipissing—Timiskaming MP Pauline Rochefort.
From the business community, we welcomed Sharon Zwaan from ONTC, Martin Lepage from Cementation, Carlo Valente and Michael Chadwick from Redpath Mining, Leah Shorrock and Jason Plamondon from Agnico Eagle, and Heather Johnston and Marla Tremblay from MineConnect.
Having so many attendees from across the region reflects the deep relationships and lasting impact the JLR North Bay office has built over the past 20 years.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the JLR staff who worked tirelessly to plan this celebration: Kim MacFarlane, Claudette Carriere, and Valerie St-Amant. We’re also grateful to Krista Akerman, P.Eng, Tara Michauville, and Kim MacFarlane again for taking pictures.
This anniversary is a celebration of the people who made it happen. Today would not have been possible without the dedication of every Team JLR member over the past two decades. The North Bay office is a testament to JLR’s commitment to community-driven growth and long-term partnerships.
Here’s to 20 years of building, collaborating, and making a difference in the community, and to the exciting future we are creating together!
