Canada’s Best Managed Companies
Canada’s Best Managed Companies is the mark of excellence for Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues over $50 million. Every year since the launch of the program in 1993, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies have competed for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates the calibre of their management abilities and practices.
JLR achieved the first award level in the Canada’s Best Managed Companies program in 2013, followed by Gold Standard in 2017. After successfully maintaining our Best Managed status for seven consecutive years, we achieved Platinum Club membership in 2020, and continue to maintain this status. In the words of JLR’s President and CEO, Saverio Parrotta, “The rigorous application process has given us the opportunity to reflect and challenge ourselves to strive toward being a better business. Being one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies speaks to the fact that we are doing our part to be an exceptional firm.”
The NOVA Business Excellence Awards
Hosted by the Timmins Chamber of Commerce, the annual NOVA Business Excellence Awards is the largest awards event in Northern Ontario, recognizing the successes and entrepreneurial achievement of the best of Timmins business.
Our Timmins Office has been the recipient of several NOVA awards, including the President’s Award, Service Excellence Award, the Young Professionals Awards, and the 2024 FNETB Best Place to Work Award.
Northern Ontario Business Awards
The Northern Ontario Business Awards (NOBA) celebrate the accomplishments of the business leaders, entrepreneurs, and business community in Northern Ontario. JLR has a history of success in this program, having won both the NOBA Company of the Year Award (51+ Employees) and the NOBA Top 5 Best Places to Work Award.
Greater Sudbury Bell Business Excellence Awards
The Bell Business Excellence Awards celebrates the achievements and contributions of young entrepreneurs, mid-size organizations, and international companies that serve as the backbone of the City of Greater Sudbury. JLR has been honoured to be a finalist for the Company of the Year award.
Guelph Awards of Excellence: Customer Service Award
The Guelph Awards of Excellence recognizes and celebrates local businesses and leaders. JLR was the 2023 Customer Service Award winner. This achievement reinforces our commitment to serving our clients, listening to their needs, and providing solutions.
Keystone Awards
JLR was awarded the inaugural Keystone Awards for Job Creation in the Ottawa Centre/South region. This award celebrates economic freedom and Canadian business owners who create it. JLR stood out among over 120 companies to be recognized for this award. This achievement highlights the amazing work of JLR in our community.
Project Awards
Consulting Engineers of Ontario
The Consulting Engineers of Ontario (CEO) Awards recognizes outstanding engineering projects and celebrates the crucial contributions of consulting engineers to improving the social, economic, and environmental quality of life in the province and across Canada.
Several JLR projects have been recognized for their exceptional quality: the Ravensview Wastewater Treatment Plant in Kingston, Ontario was awarded the prestigious Willis Chipman Award, and both the Vale Living with Lakes Centre in Sudbury, Ontario and the Third Crossing Environmental Assessment for the City of Kingston were awarded the CEO Award of Merit.
Association of Consulting Engineering Companies
The Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards are given to projects demonstrating a high-quality of engineering, imagination, and innovation. The awards are the most prestigious mark of recognition for consulting engineers in Canada. They are presented jointly by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) and Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine.
JLR has been honoured to receive four awards in this program: Nortel Networks Clean Room Manufacturing Facility (Award of Merit); the Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport Expansion (Award of Excellence); the Ravensview Wastewater Treatment Plant (Award of Excellence), and Vale Living with Lakes Centre (Award of Excellence).
ACEC-Ontario awarded JLR with the Award of Distinction in the Municipal Infrastructure category for its work on the Manotick Watermain Link (MWL), Phase 1 and North Island Watermain Link (NIL) project (2023).
JLR won the 2024 ACEC Ontario – Grand River Chapter Awards of Merit for the Eramosa Public School Mechanical and Electrical upgrade project. JLR provided multidisciplinary engineering and architectural design services for the upgrade project.
Ontario Wood Works!
The Canadian Wood Council’s Ontario Wood WORKS! Program recognizes projects that reflect innovation and advancements in wood research and technology and the evolving wood culture in Ontario. The awards are given to projects that demonstrate thoughtful design and execution in applying wood in construction.
The JLR-designed Vale Living with Lakes Centre, located on the campus of Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, received the prestigious Green Building Wood Design Award for excellence in wood architecture.
Ontario Association of Architects
The Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) Awards program highlights the best in architectural design and innovation by Ontario architects.
The OAA awarded JLR the Design Excellence Award as well as the Sustainable Design Excellence Award for the Vale Living with Lakes Centre on the campus of Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario.
Holcim Foundation Awards for Sustainable Construction
The Holcim Foundation awards international participants in recognition of innovative projects and future-oriented concepts that go beyond balancing environmental performance, social responsibility, and economic growth. Winning projects exemplify architectural excellence, a high degree of transferability, and extend notions of sustainable design and construction through all stages of their individual lifecycles.
The JLR-designed Vale Living with Lakes Centre was awarded the prestigious Holcim North America Award for Sustainable Construction.
ASHRAE Technology Awards
The ASHRAE Technology Awards recognize outstanding achievements by members who have successfully applied innovative building design in occupant comfort, indoor air quality, and energy conservation.
JLR received the New Alternative/Renewable Energy Award for the Kuntz Electroplating Cogeneration project in Kitchener, Ontario.
Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Illumination Awards
The IES Illumination Awards program recognizes individuals for professionalism, ingenuity, and originality in lighting design based on the individual merit of each entry. JLR team members received the Design Award for Sports Lighting for the Scotiabank Place NHL Arena, the Design Award for Exterior Lighting for the Bayshore Transit Station, and Recognition for Successful Exterior Lighting and Design Project for the Carleton University O-Train Campus Bridge project.
City of Ottawa Heritage Awards
The Ottawa Heritage Awards (formerly the Ottawa Architectural Conservation Awards) recognize outstanding contributions to restoring and conserving Ottawa’s heritage properties. This prestigious award recognized JLR’s work on the J.G. Whyte & Son Building.
BOMA TOBY Awards
The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) Awards recognizes quality in commercial real estate buildings and rewards excellence in building management. JLR was awarded the TOBY award in recognition of the Justice Canada Headquarters project in Ottawa, Ontario.
Ontario Public Works Association Awards
JLR won the 2024 OPWA Public Works Project of the Year for Small Municipalities Award for the Casselman Wastewater System Upgrades. JLR provided design and consulting services for the project from inception through to construction.
JLR also won for the Graham Creek Storm Infrastructure Renewal project in the Environmental Sustainability category. JLR was retained by the City of Ottawa to provide design, tendering, and contract administration for the renewal work of Graham Creek, aimed at enhancing the sustainability of the urban drainage systems.
