Client: Regional Municipality of Halton
Location: Oakville, Ontario
Size: N/A
The Regional Municipality of Halton (Municipality) engaged JLR to support them with the deployment of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and a battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Oakville Water Purification Plant (WPP).
Multiple drivers for the deployment of a system were incorporated into the project, including electricity cost savings under the Ontario Class A Global Adjustment rate structure, greenhouse gas emissions reductions and standby power for brief interruptions, and “future proofing” against various potential future changes to utility rates and outages.
Following the successful completion of a feasibility study, the JLR team advanced the project into detailed design. This phase of the work was amalgamated into a larger project (led by Associated Engineering ) that was overseeing a major upgrade of the entire WPP. JLR was responsible for the detailed design for the selected PV arrays, the BESS solution, the AC interconnections of these systems, along with coordination with project partners to successfully couple them into the upgraded electrical infrastructure and upgraded supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) control systems. JLR also supported the Municipality with advanced procurement of the BESS to secure long lead time item and its specialty performance specifications.
