JLR was retained by Vale Canada Limited (Vale) to complete a feasibility study for the Phase 4 project. As part of this study, JLR was tasked with completing preliminary design for the mining, infrastructure, backfill, and ventilation systems. This included the development of operating and capital cost estimates, a schedule and detailed plan for the execution phase, and detailed operational readiness planning.
This project began after Vale conducted a scoping study to evaluate mining options from the 7810 Level to the 10,020 Level at Creighton Mine. The study examined the economics of deep ore mining at the site. At that time, Vale reviewed the results and followed recommendations that further studies be conducted to examine all resources and maximize the utilization of plant assets and mine infrastructure. The results of this directive were the Phase 3 (7940L to 8200L) and Phase 4 (8330L to 8590L) projects.
For this Phase 4, JLR acted as the Prime Consultant with overall accountability for the project deliverables, infrastructure design, and project management. JLR enlisted three subconsultants who rounded out our expertise in and supported the mining, ventilation, and backfill components. This project was completed on time and on budget with a very satisfied client.
