JLR was retained for the redevelopment of the City of Kingston (City) Public Works facility at 701 Division Street. The two-storey building and parking area targeted and achieved LEED Gold certification. Many sustainable concepts were incorporated into the design, including different shading for differing facade orientation to the sun, durable and low maintenance polished concrete floor finishes, and sophisticated building automation controls.
Because the site fronts on Division Street, a major downtown artery, a key design challenge was to distinguish the operation centre. This was accomplished by incorporating colourful Omaha panelized wall sections that represent the Public Works Department and acts as building signage. The building also has glazing to create a comfortable work environment and an appealing interface with the street.
