The Industrial team was retained as part of a joint venture between Rolls-Royce Canada and Pratt & Whitney Canada in partnership with EnviroTREC, the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), and MDS Aero. The Global Aerospace Centre for Icing and Environmental Research Inc. (GLACIER) facility is located in Thompson, Manitoba. This facility provides icing certification tests for large gas turbine engines, as well as performance, endurance and other gas turbine engine qualification testing. The GLACIER facility is the most advanced and largest icing cloud simulation system in the world today.
The team provided detailed engineering (mechanical, electrical, and controls) of a water control trailer (WCT), which is the heart of the spray mast control system (SMCS) that controls 220 individual spray nozzles. In addition, human machine interface (HMI) software design support and programming service for the water control trailer was provided.
