North West Refining Inc. and Canadian Natural Resources Limited formed the North West Redwater Partnership (NWR) to build a first-of-its-kind refinery. This refinery megaproject is designed to produce high-quality energy products. It is also a key step in a new process that both reduces carbon creation and captures carbon that can be later used or stored indefinitely.

The Industrial team designed the balance of plant (BOP) piping systems, ducting, platforms, and economizer and stack support structure for three 357 Kpph (162 t/h) package boilers.

The challenges this project presented included: strict requirements for minimizing field construction; tight footprint for boiler location; and cooperation with two separate engineering groups. Complete 3D modelling of all components to minimize interferences, field changes, and client backcharges were completed.
