Joan has over 25 years of experience in engineering and has focused the past 12 years on renewable energy and low carbon solutions, including advanced solar performance and modelling and renewable energy planning and integration. Her recent work has included peak shaving, energy strategy for large campuses, integration of solar and storage into buildings, and net-zero carbon buildings. Joan is experienced in developing projects, building multidisciplinary teams, and supporting collaborative relationships and projects using leading-edge energy technologies. As an Associate and Chief of JLR’s Innovative Energy Group, Joan supports a wide range of renewable energy and greenhouse gas reduction projects.
Joan has been involved in many journal and conference publications, a book chapter, patents, and conference presentations. In 2016, she won the WIRE Woman of Distinction in Solar Award for contributions to research and capacity building. She is an Adjunct Professor in Electrical Engineering and sits on the Board of the Ottawa Climate Action Fund.
